Tamarindo is one of the busier tourist locations in Costa Rica, the various activities to do in the area, charming beach and cluster of hotels/ vacation rentals has made this one of the more popular locations to vacation in this spectacular country. Tamarindo is a small town but bustles with tourism and the town really comes alive at night with several options to toss back a few drinks and dance the night away. The near perfect climate of the gold coast of Guanacaste is a huge draw, you will never have to worry about rain when visiting during the summer months from mid-November to June and if you visit during the rainy season from July to November you will still encounter better weather than you are most likely used to plus a little rain will be refreshing. One of the best parts of Tamarindo is enjoying the wide variety of dining options sure to please your taste buds.
The town is only 70km from the Liberia International Airport and has a domestic airport of its own which is one of the reasons why this area is so well developed. This location is renowned for sport fishing much like many locations in Costa Rica, you will have the opportunity to catch blue marlin, sailfish, tuna, dorado, snapper, roosterfish and more. Tamarindo has many options for tours including zip line, scuba diving, rafting and monkey tours. From October to May you can catch the turtles nesting and it is highly recommended that you book a night tour to catch this amazing event.
Tamarindo is a great place to learn how to surf at the beach near the center of town, if you are more experienced head north toward the river mouth but beware of crocodiles, there has been a few incidents in the area. Some other popular surf spots close by include Playa Negra, Avellanas and Playa Langosta just to name a few.
